Course Description
The clinical neurosciences are undergoing rapid changes in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders, particularly those concerning surgical treatment options.  At the conclusion of this course, neurologists, internists, family practitioners, neurosurgeons, pain management and rehabilitation specialist, oncologists and allied healthcare professionals will have an increased awareness of both established and emerging treatment options for brain and spine tumors, epilepsy, and spinal disorders, and endovascular and stroke management. 

The program will present the treatment options in an interdisciplinary fashion using plenary lectures and case presentations. This symposium will offer participants an opportunity to engage in interactive discussions with renowned faculty who are involved with initiating these neurological advances.

Educational Objectives

  • Identify the criteria used to recommend intravenous or intra-arterial therapy for patients with thrombembolic stroke
  • Utilize radiosurgery, biological therapies and novel approaches to target intracranial brain tumors
  • Assess the indications for injection therapy and evaluate the risks and benefits
  • Assess when to appropriately order Transcranial Doppler (TCD) for new indications and interpret the results in the context of patient co-morbid diseases
  • Discuss how decisions are made to implant intracranial electrodes in epilepsy patients and the goal of these procedures
  • Describe the seizure free likelihood following presective epilepsy surgery
