SOLAR & WIND ENERGY WORKSHOP FOR EDUCATORS

The National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project and Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation are excited to announce the upcoming Wind/Solar Schools Workshop on November 6, 2013 at the Museum of Science & Industry.  This workshop is designed to provide classroom hands-on materials and training to schools who have received ICECF grants for solar and/or wind installations.

Classroom teachers (K-12) will have a unique opportunity to learn about wind and solar energy in a fun and exciting way!  Directions will be sent with registration confirmation.

Thanks to the sponsorship of the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation, there is no cost to attend the workshop.  Breakfast and lunch are included!  Substitute reimbursement forms will be provided at the workshop and substitute costs will be reimbursed to school districts.

The NEED Project’s mission is to promote an energy conscious and educated society. NEED is the nation’s leading provider of energy education programs and materials to schools. All NEED learning activities are correlated to Illinois science objectives and many others. The program will make teaching energy fun and exciting as you return to your classroom. Thanks to the support of the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation, all participating schools will receive a NEED Solar or Wind Kit for their grade level and additional materials developed by the National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project. Additional curriculum materials to teach about energy and energy resources will be provided.

ABOUT  NEED

The NEED Project includes teacher-tested educational materials, evaluation techniques and tools, recognition of student achievement, and professional development for educators.  All NEED learning activities are aligned to Illinois standards.

ABOUT ICECF

The Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation launched its K-12 Solar Schools Program in 2006, and it’s K-12 Wind Schools Pilot in 2011 to introduce the future of energy technology to today’s students. To date, the Foundation’s programs have awarded grants to over 190 schools across Illinois to support the installation of small scale solar PV and wind systems. Although small, each system will become part of the school’s curriculum as well as generate free electricity
