UNITING IN A CALL TO ACTION

We are facing challenges to our collective bargaining rights. Local associations may struggle with administrations, boards of education, and the community over bargaining and implementation of the collective bargaining agreement. State and federal legislation have compounded these challenges by instituting untested mandates that impact how we educate children and maintain the public’s investment in school facilities and services.  Whether you are a third grade reading teacher, a professor at a community college or a bus driver in a small rural school district, your negotiating skills and collective will to protect members’ professional pursuits are being tested. Your defense is your local association and OEA.

The 2014 OEA Collective Bargaining Conference offers empowering training for local leaders and bargaining team members that addresses:

  • The importance of negotiating, protecting and strengthening a collective bargaining agreement;
  • The value of growing individual member investment in, and enforcement of, their collective bargaining agreement; and
  • The benefits of educating members of the challenges that they, their local association and the OEA are facing.

Registration Information

The conference will be held at the Hilton Columbus Downtown, 401 North High Street in Columbus, Friday, February 7 through Saturday, February 8. Registration will open at 8:00 a.m., Friday and OEA President Becky Higgins will welcome participants at 10:00 a.m., followed by sessions through Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. The conference will conclude at noon on Saturday.

Lunch will be provided on Friday along with breakfast and a “To-Go” boxed lunch on Saturday. (In order to receive the “To-Go” boxed lunch, you must return the overall conference evaluation.)

The conference is for members only, and members must use their OEA Member ID to complete the registration process.

Cancellation Policy

Registration cancellations need to be made by January 22 in order to receive a full refund. Any registrant who cancels their conference registration must also cancel their hotel reservation. OEA will not be responsible for no shows to the hotel

PARKING IS COMPLIMENTARY WHEN YOU SELF PARK IN THE VINE STREET GARAGE (WEST PARKING GARAGE):

Because parking rates are expensive (up to $18 during the day and $20 overnight), and OEA is paying for the parking charges, we encourage members to carpool.

If you have a sleeping room, please do not pay upon entering the parking garage. Tell the attendant that you are with a group at the hotel and you will pull a ticket to enter.  When you check in, your room key will be your in and out access to parking.  Please verify with the registration desk that your room key does have in/out privileges for parking.

If you do not have a sleeping room and you are a “DAY PARKER,” tell the attendant that you are with a group at the hotel and pull a ticket upon entering.  You will need the ticket that you pulled along with another ticket distributed by OEA staff member, Carol Price, to use when exiting.  You will need both tickets to exit without being charged.

If you need HANDICAP PARKING, there are handicap parking spaces available on every level of the parking garage. These spaces are first come/first serve.

DO NOT VALET PARK. OEA WILL NOT COVER THIS COST.

If you choose to valet park, the cost is $24.00 for overnight valet and $15.00 for the day. This expense is non-reimbursable and will be your responsibility.

PLEASE BUILD IN TIME FOR ENTERING AND EXITING THE PARKING GARAGE.  THE HOTEL/GARAGE HAS A STOP LIGHT AT EACH CORNER. IT CAN TAKE UP TO 5-25 MINUTES TO GET IN AND OUT OF THE GARAGE.

Payment Instructions

  • The registration fee is $100 per person. This price includes your hotel room for one night (based on double occupancy), all conference materials and two meals. All rooms will need to be guaranteed with a credit card.

    You may pay by credit card (online only) or by check. If you are paying by check, please print the invoice found at the end of the registration process. Mail the invoice, the printed copy of your registration email confirmation and your check, made payable to Ohio Education Association, to be received no later January 22, 2014 to:
