NMU Environmental Science Camp
2014 Class Dates July 27 - August 2, 2014

High school students are invited to join us to explore the scenic vistas and natural resources of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula!  At this academic camp you will experience first hand how scientists incorporate technology and field experiences to study the changing environment. Paddle the AuTrain River and cruise on Lake Superior to monitor water quality issues. Tour local mines to learn where our minerals come from, what techniques are used to extract them, and how mining affects the environment and society.  Understand the role of the Great Lakes in shipping resources such as iron ore. Explore the landforms, vegetation and archaeology of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Learn how people have interacted for thousands of years with the landscapes of the Upper Peninsula.  And experience modern day Marquette while learning about urban planning, historical aspects of urban growth and human impact on the environment as cities grow.

This camp covers all necessary fees and transportation associated with field experiences and will use the facilities and technology of Northern Michigan University. Camp registration price is: $505.

Registration price increases to $605 after June 1.
