Painting a Bright Future for Every Child

Each day, more than 700 children and families rely on the Carole Robertson Center’s services, which are only made possible through the support of the broader community. Each spring, the Carole Robertson Center for Learning holds an annual event to recognize our committed volunteers and community supporters and to celebrate recent accomplishments. This year’s celebration: Painting a Bright Future for Every Child will be held Thursday, April 10, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Room 1520 located at 1520 W. Fulton Market in Chicago. CBS 2 Chicago’s Ryan Baker will serve as the Master of Ceremonies for the event.

This event is an important fundraiser, securing funds in support of our child, youth, and family development programs. As a non-profit agency, the Carole Robertson Center relies heavily on donations and fundraising to meet the costs necessary to provide quality, comprehensive services to our families, as we have done for 38 years. With your help, we can reach our fundraising goal of $45,000 for this event.

Your participation will add to the fun and mean so much to the families we serve on the west side of Chicago. We hope that you will be able to join us as we celebrate the accomplishments of our community. In 1983, the Carole Robertson Memorial Scholarship was established to help current program participants and alumni of the Center’s School Age and Youth Development programs. It is awarded to accomplished youth who are pursuing higher education. We’re very excited to once again recognize the accomplishments of those who go through our programs as they continue their pursuit of higher education.

After 32 years of service to the organization, the Carole Robertson Center for Learning’s former CEO, Gail Nelson, took a position with the Governor’s Office of Early Education as the QRIS Policy Director for the State of Illinois. We will honor Gail’s previous years of service to the Center at this year’s Annual Celebration. And to round things out, three awards will be presented to our fabulous corporate partners – without their support our work would be severely limited. The following awards will be presented at this year’s Annual Celebration:

The 2014 Volunteer Group of the Year goes to Kendall College. This award honors outstanding volunteer service to the Carole Robertson Center. Awardees make significant contributions to the Center throughout the year by sharing their time, talents, and resources with children, youth and staff.  Kendall College volunteers have supported the Center through their ongoing work in our classrooms and through beautification projects they have funded and carried out. Their staff and students also continue to support the agency each year through the Center’s Holiday Gift Giving project. This year, the College donated 50 gifts to the HGG project. Please visit Kendall College’s website at www.kendall.edu to find out more about the college and its programs.

The 2014 Corporate Volunteer Group of the Year goes to Northern Trust. This award honors corporate volunteer groups who make important contributions to the Center through large scale or ongoing projects. Awardees bring hard work and dedication providing service that would not otherwise be possible. Northern Trust volunteers from three separate divisions have supported the Center in several ways. Through the holidays employees supported the Center by providing coats and other essential winter gear, provided 40 families with gifts through our HGG project, and sponsored numerous families through our Family Sponsorship project. Northern Trust volunteers have regularly assisted in the Center’s pre-school classrooms offering one-on-one experiences, and worked on beautification projects throughout the Center. Please visit the Northern Trust’s website to learn more about their company at: www.northerntrust.com.

The 2014 Friends of the Center award goes to Meeting Professionals International – Chicago Area Chapter (MPI - CAC).  This award honors corporate and community groups or individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to the Carole Robertson Center for Learning. Awardees show their dedication to the Center’s work over time with volunteer, in-kind, monetary, and other support.  MPI-CAC took the Carole Robertson Center on as a charity partner, and has provided countless hours of pro bono meeting planning and special events assistance to the Resource Development team. They have shared their network with us and encouraged us to aim high as we raise the profile of the Center to match the quality of its services. To find out more about MPI-CAC and their activities, please visit their website at: http://www.mpicac.org/.
