Target Audience
This educational activity is intended for healthcare providers who work with BRCA mutations including surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, gynecologic oncologists, obstetricians, gynecologists, primary care physicians,geneticists, genetic counselors, nurses, nurse practitioners and all others who are interested in BRCA related cancers.

Learning Objectives
The conference was designed to meet the following educational objectives based on the professional practice gaps identified during the planning of this program: 

  • List the ramifications of the Supreme Court decision to remove patent for BRCA testing.
  • Identify the various BRCA testing modalities and the options available through each test.
  • Identify appropriate patients that require BRCA testing and select the optimal time to conduct the test.
  • List the different targeted therapeutic approaches for BRCA+ patients.
  • Identify common screening methods used to reduce risk and improve patient outcomes.
  • List the risks associated with the new mutations that have been identified and recognize how they impact patient care.
  • Recognize the pros/cons, from a patient perspective, of all risk reducing strategies, which include surveillance, chemo prevention and surgery.

As an ACCME accredited provider, this activity will be planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the ACCME and Criteria 1-22 with the goal of providing participants with an innovative, interactive learning experience that represents the best in medical education.

This event has been submitted to the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC) for approval of Category 1 CEUs. The American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) accepts CEUs approved by NSGC for purposes of recertification. Approval for the requested CEUs and Contact Hours is currently pending.
