PYDI Agenda

Interactive Workshop List

Keynote Speakers include:

Rusty Clifford, Ph. D., 2013 Ohio Superintendent of the Year—Dr. Clifford is a dynamic and engaging speaker who offers real-life, practical strategies rooted in good science and PYD principles. In his opening keynote address,  21st Century Assets—The Hidden Drivers of Excellence, Dr. Clifford will discuss how his district has employed a PYD framework for exploring, executing, and energizing a “collective effort” regarding prominent educational issues such as Education Reform, Learning Standards, and Graduation Requirements.  While addressing the impact their effort has had in these arenas, his presentation will emphasize how relationships are the basis for building assets – every day, every place, every time.

Mr. Richard Gold, founded the Pongo Teen Writing Project, a program that facilitates poetry with youth who’ve suffered traumas such as abuse and neglect. During 19 years, Pongo has worked with over 6,000 teens in juvenile detention, homeless shelters, and psychiatric hospitals. Pongo poetry helps youth understand their feelings, build self-esteem, and develop valuable coping skills. Richard’s recently published book is Writing with At-Risk Youth: The Pongo Teen Writing Method (Rowman & Littlefield Education, 2014). He has been honored by Bill and Melinda Gates and the Microsoft Alumni Foundation. Richard’s keynote is entitled: Resilience and Joy through Pongo Poetry.

Erin Walsh, M.A., Erin was an instrumental force in the creation of the MediaWise movement and played a key role in the operations of the National Institute on Media and the Family in Minneapolis, MN. She is a national speaker with Bolster Collaborative and Mind Positive Parenting and will explore the neurological basis of executive function skills like patience, perseverance, determination, and self-discipline and explain some of the major challenges to nurturing them in youth during Tuesday’s luncheon. Her keynote is entitled: Wired to Connect: Why Relationships Are the Fuel of Healthy Youth Development.

Interactive Breakout Sessions

Numerous high-quality, interactive breakout sessions will be offered, featuring presenters from across the United States. Practical strategies based on strength-based PYD principles will be provided from various program and organizational settings. You are sure to find numerous “gems” to integrate into your daily practice! Final selections will be made in early May and posted on this website for your consideration.
