The hand drum has been used for thousands of years in celebrations, rituals and ceremonies.  The merging of science with the healing qualities of the hand drum is a relatively new development.  Robert Lawrence Friedman, MA, author of The Healing Power of the Drum – A Psychotherapist Explores the Healing Power of Rhythm (White Cliffs Media, 2001) and The Healing Power of the Drum II – A Journey of Rhythm and Stories (Pathway Books, 2010) is one of pioneers in this burgeoning new field.

This lecture and hands-on workshop will explore and demonstrate how rhythm-based wellness exercises can be used to attain psychological, emotional and spiritual well-being.  Theprogram will demonstrate how rhythm-based exercises can be used as a positive and constructive vehicle for improving both mental and physical states.   Anecdotes, clinical data and experiential exercises will be provided.  (Certified Board of Music Therapy (CBMT) and National Board of Certified Counselor (NBCC) continuing education credits are available.)
