Kathleen Vollman, MSN, RN, CCNS, FCCM, FAAN

Kathleen is a Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist, Educator and Consultant. Ms. Vollman has published and lectured throughout North and South America and overseas on a variety of pulmonary, critical care and professional nursing topics. She earned her nursing degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan and her Master’s in Critical Care Nursing from California State University. From 1989 to 2003 she functioned in the role of Clinical Nurse Specialist for the Medical Critical Care Area at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. Currently her company, Advancing Nursing, LLC, is focused on creating empowered work environments for nurses through the acquisition of greater skills and knowledge. In 2009, Kathleen was inducted into the American Academy of Nurses. In addition she designed and developed the Vollman Prone Positioner. Ms. Vollman is listed in Who’s Who of American Inventors.  

Dr. Cinti, M.D. Associate Professor, Internal Medicine

Dr. Cinti is an infectious diseases physician at the University of Michigan Health System with ongoing involvement in the preparation for bioterrorism and emerging infections at the national, state and local level. He has been a member of the State of Michigan Bioterrorism Subcommittee since its inception in 1999. Dr. Cinti disseminates information over a listserv on topics relevant to the care of patients exposed to biological agents or emerging infections (SARS, WNV). He is the Director of the Michigan Biodefense Alert Listserv (MBAL) and has experience in teaching and training groups to respond to bioterrorism.

Denise O'Brien, DNP(c), RN, ACNS-BC, CPAN, CAPA, FAAN

Denise O’Brien is a perianesthesia clinical nurse specialist at the University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Certified in postanesthesia nursing and in ambulatory perianesthesia nursing, her experience includes education and clinical care in inpatient and ambulatory surgery areas. She has presented across the United States and internationally on perianesthesia nursing topics. Denise has authored numerous journal articles and book chapters. She received her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Madonna University in 2012. A charter member of the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses, Denise served as its President from 1994-95, and as editor of the Journal of Perianesthesia Nursing. She was inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing in November 2004. She is active on ASPAN committees and with the Michigan Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists and the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists.

Leah Shever, PhD, RN

Leah Shever is the Director of Nursing Research, Quality, and Innovation at University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Systems. Dr. Shever’s work in both quality improvement and research focuses on the impact of nursing care on patient outcomes.  Additionally, a large part her work involves the discovery and implementation of evidence-based practice.  As a former critical care nurse, she understands the need for pragmatic implementation strategies to ensure success.  Dr. Shever has many years of experience in the development, use and mentoring of evidence-based practice and has written and presented internationally on various related topics.
