Course Information:
This two-day course is designed to develop the skills necessary to become a Southface Energy Institute certified Duct and Envelope Tightness (DET) Verifier qualified to perform the diagnostic testing required for new homes by the 2009 and 2012 residential energy codes. LaHouse Resource Center is an authorized provider of the Southface training, exam and certification.

After successful completion of this course, the participant will be able to test the leakage of a building envelope and duct system, and evaluate the results as measured against the 2009 International Residential Code (IRC) energy chapter requirements. Course content includes:
  • Basic building science concepts of air flow, air pressure and building performance.
  • The relationship between duct and building tightness and requirements of the 2009 IRC energy chapter.
  • Protocols for blower door and duct leakage testing and reporting.
  • Calculations for ACH50 and percent duct leakage
  • Tips for successfully completing the written and in-field DET Verifier certification exams

  • 1.5 days of live, interactive instruction and hands-on practice (plus half day DET exams)

Who should attend: 
Professionals seeking certification by a nationally recognized testing organization to perform mandated testing by the 2009 residential energy code, building inspectors, HVAC contractors, energy efficiency contractors and service providers, quality assurance construction managers.

Certification: Duct and Envelope Tightness (DET) Verifier Certificate (NOTE: You must receive a passing score on both exams (included in tuition costs) for Southface designation as a DET Verifier.)
Education units: Eligible for 12 CEUs for La. residential contractors
Certificate of attendance will be issued and may qualify for other professional units.

 Select the AGENDA tab above to see upcoming class dates.  The two-day class is held from 8:00-4:00 in the Teaching Center of LaHouse Resource Center, located on Gourrier Ave., Baton Rouge, La. (directly across from LSU Alex Box Baseball Stadium). Please arrive between 7:45 and 8:00 a.m. for registration and photos taken for inclusion on the certificates.

Prerequisites and Class Supplies:
Online Pre-class Tutorials: Math Basics for DET Verifiers and Basics of Building Science online 1-hour modules (access provided upon registration.
Supplies:  Bring a calculator for the exams, paper and pencil for note taking.

Cost:  
$400 registration fee (includes written and field exams on day 2)* 
*20% discount  on class fee for LHBA and La. Realtor members, LaHouse Gold + Key Contributors,  government and non-profit organization employees, faculty and students.
