The inaugural summit of RFF's Center for Energy and Climate Economics (CECE) will focus on innovation. Specifically, we’ll look to the next generation of energy and climate policies that reduce barriers to innovation and remain compatible with new technologies. We’ll examine the intersection of policy and technology—two spheres that all too often seem to operate independently or even at odds.

During the summit, we’ll explore several foundational questions in relation to three main sectors of the US economy: transportation, oil and gas, and electricity:

  1. In what ways are US energy and climate policies (or government funding decisions) either facilitating or creating barriers to technology development and deployment?
  2. Where barriers exist, what creative policy solutions might be available?
  3. How are innovations in technology driving a need for updates to existing policies—or the development of new policies? What would those policy updates look like?
Two separate sessions will focus on hands-on interactions with new technologies as well as the intersection of big data and energy and climate policy.

RFF is pleased to acknowledge the generous support of BASF for this inaugural summit of RFF’s Center for Energy and Climate Economics.
