Dear Fellow Chairs,

I am delighted to invite you to attend the 2016 AMSPC Annual Meeting, which will be held in Cost Rica, from February 04-08, 2016.  Costa Rica is known for its biodiversity, and is a destination for ecotourism with limitless possibilities that include rainforests, volcanoes, beaches and numerous national parks and forest reserves.  The meeting will be held at the Marriott Hotel in San Jose,  just 15 minutes from the San Jose International Airport (SJO), but a world away in terms of ambiance and tranquility.
We are in the process of finalizing the program, which will include an exciting mix of formal presentations and panel discussions on diverse topics of scientific and educational interest to the AMSPC community.  Several sessions will focus on (1) the reproducibility of scientific research and NIH /FASEB programs to address this issue, (2) the sustainability of biomedical research in the current environment, and (3)  drug discovery/design in academia. Of course we will also have presentations by several new Chairs on their science and programs, and what promises to be a lively session on education.  This meeting has provided an invaluable forum  to network and discuss how best to address the challenges facing each of us as Chairs and Investigators, and I look forward to your participation and suggestions for additional topics.

In addition to the presentations, we will have numerous opportunities to interact during our leisure time.  We will spend one afternoon enjoying the LaPAz Waterfall Rainforest Preserve together.  Sheilah Jewart, our long-time meeting organizer is also developing a series of activities that you and/or your guests can participate in off-hours including a crocodile cruise, zip line or tram through the rainforest and the Irazu Volcano.  The Marriot Hotel is a beautiful antique-filled, cozy hacienda on 30 acres of land with lovely views of the Central Valley Mountains, a golf driving range, outdoor pool and a fabulous Spa.  I hope you and your guests can all make it to Costa Rica, and if you can come a day early, the white water raft trip on the Pacaure River is not to be missed!!

See you in Costa Rica!
