The NICHE Long Term Care - Leadership Training Program offers a blended learning approach in which participants engage in a rigorous initial eight-week program delivered via a web-based platform and facilitated by the NICHE team and mentors. The components of the LTP include a live introduction webinar, learning webinars, proven strategies from established NICHE organizations, and more participant engagement with NICHE faculty and mentors who lead NICHE programs in their organizations.

You will be given access to the course via the NICHE Knowledge Center, a web-based e-learning platform.

NICHE is a national leader in improving geriatric care in hospitals and healthcare organizations. Over 620 hospitals and healthcare facilities have adopted NICHE programs. They share a common vision of providing exemplary care to older adults through implementing NICHE’s systemic approach to creating organizational change across disciplines.

There are numerous advantages to having a NICHE program in your organization. NICHE sites report improved resident outcomes, greater resident and nurse satisfaction, increased efficiency and marketability.

As members, your organization will have access to these resources:

  • A robust members-only website which houses an abundance of Long Term Care Educational tools and resources that include continuing education and training modules, organizational models, clinical organizational strategies, the NICHE Encyclopedia, video streaming, and the NICHE Marketing Materials.
  • E-learning webinar series with expert hosts, featuring the latest research, best practices, and organizational strategies to improve clinical outcomes.
  • Participation in a thriving online community to share knowledge with peers in sites around the country.
  • Updates on information, workshops, and activities of interest to NICHE members.
How Does The Leadership Training Program Work?
  • Initial eight-week of largely self-paced interactive learning modules.
  • Scheduled live webinars and group conference calls presented during the initial 8-week program.
  • Online activities complemented by practice-based assignments, done at your organization, that reflect behavioral outcomes.
  • NICHE faculty from experienced sites facilitate online discussion forums and group conference calls, answer questions and share lessons learned, as you work on developing a plan, educating staff, and gaining support for implementing NICHE.
  • Program topics that include: an overview of NICHE models, staff education; and other clinical, financial, and organizational measurement approaches to evaluate program effectiveness.
  • PowerPoint slides, articles, and streamed video.
  • Readings and assignments to guide the planning of NICHE implementation in your organization from the Leadership and Management Skills for Long Term Care
  • Contact hours (20) will be available for participants.
At the end of the training program, you will have time to develop an Action Plan, which will be reviewed and discussed with your team by your NICHE mentors. This is an essential step in becoming a NICHE member.
  • Three months, six months, and nine months post-this initial phase, you and your team will be asked to submit an update on your action plan and progress of the the change process. At these points, you will participate in learning collaborative conference calls with your mentors and NICHE staff to share information on how you are leading change.
  • After completion of the first year which coincides with NICHE Membership renewal, we will request an important LTC Year 1 report to follow up on your progress with implementation.
