Microchipping & Animal Welfare
4th April 2016, One Birdcage Walk, Westminister

According to Defra, each year more than 100,000 dogs are dumped or lost at a cost of £57 million to the taxpayer and welfare charities. Over half (52%) of these stray dogs could not be identified and, shockingly, 6,000 dogs are put down each year because their owner is unknown and they cannot be rehomed. The farming, smuggling and illegal trading of unregistered puppies also continues at an alarming rate and this simply cannot be allowed to continue.
The Microchipping and Pet Welfare One Day National Conference will bring together vets, animal welfare officers and key stakeholders to discuss the impact of the new Microchipping Legislation introduced on the 6th April 2016.

Delegates at this timely and important event will get to take part in discussions on Defra’s new Animal Welfare Legislation, which is aimed at protecting puppies and dogs through Microchipping; the ongoing and serious concern of puppy farming and smuggling; interagency collaboration, or how we can all work together; what’s being done by local government to ensure everyone has the resources and knowledge to do the work; and the realities of frontline enforcement.

Delegates will also look at innovative case studies from those who are working on the ground and the challenges they face safeguarding puppies and dogs from cruelty, neglect and irresponsible dog ownership.
