Marna Flaherty-Robb, RN, MSN, CNS
, is the Chief Nursing Information Officer at the University of Michigan Health System. Prior to this role Marna was Associate Dean of Nursing for Practice Development and Integration at Oregon Health and Sciences University. In this role she also was involved in extensive program planning for elders and their families. During the eighties and nineties Marna served as Regional Services Manager at Kaiser Permanente Northwest. In this role she was responsible for integrated service delivery planning,population health and design for Case Management. Her expertise in program models, measurement and role enactment is extensive. This includes design for integrated electronic medical records, inter-professional high performance teamwork and family preparation for caregiving. 


Michelle Amstutz, RN C-EFM, PRN, ACLS- NRP certified
Level III staff nurse at Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital Ann Arbor MI. Michelle has been on the labor and delivery unit since 1997. She wears many hats such as team coordinator for high risk obstetrical emergencies, relief charge nurse, preceptor for new nursing staff, unit based nursing council member, and certified pain resource nurse. Over the last two years she has been a leader on a two year quality improvement project to bring nitrous oxide to her hospital.

ura Bozeman, MSN, RNC-OB, CNL, c-EFM
Laura received her undergraduate degree in nursing from Eastern Michigan University and a master's in nursing with the CNL™ (Clinical Nurse Leader) focus from the University of Detroit Mercy. Her career track includes 14 years of critical care experience followed by 24 years in Labor & Delivery. Currently, Laura serves as the Clinical Nurse Leader of a high-risk Labor & Delivery unit at St Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ann Arbor, MI. Laura is an active member of several professional organizations (AWHONN, Sigma Theta Tau International & CNLA).  She is certified by the CNC as a Clinical Nurse Leader, and the NCC certified for inpatient OB & fetal monitoring. Laura has proudly shared her work at both local and national conferences & conventions. Laura enjoys empowering team members to participate in quality improvement projects. Two of her projects have been published & she hopes to add to that list!


Dr. Leah Shever, PhD, RN
, is the Director of Nursing Research, Quality, and Innovation.  She is the lead of the Staff Nurse Evidence-based Practice Fellowship program which began in May 2015 with seven staff nurses.  The purpose of the fellowship are to 1) increase individual staff nurse knowledge around evidence-based practice, implementation, and quality improvement, 2) improve quality of care for patients by implementing evidence-based care to address an area of concern, and 3) continue to grow the nursing culture at UMHS to value evidence-based practice and to be leaders in this work.  The fellows are supported by mentors, their unit/local leadership, and the Research and Translation Committee.   


Staff Nurse Evidence-based Practice Fellows: Baljit Dhillon (Unit: 9C/D Adult Psych) – Project: Relationship between enhancing resilience among inpatient adult psychiatric nursing staff and decreasing perceived stress to enhance clinical outcomes. Christy Richard (Unit: 6A Rehab) – Project: Walk this Way: A nurse driven walking program for stroke patients. Megan Smith (Unit: 10W Mott PCTU) – Project: Investigating the Practice of Using Breast Milk during Oral Care in the Prevention of Ventilator Associated Pneumonia for Infants with Congenital Heart Disease.

    Fees include continental breakfast, breaks, lunch and educational materials.  There is a $25 service fee for refunds requested before March 4, 2016.  No refunds will be made after March 4, 2016; however substitutions will be accepted.
