Course Description

Coach Tony Blauer created CrossFit Defense as the study of human movement as it relates to fear and aggression, and it is based on the body’s natural response to danger. The Trainer Course focuses on the SPEAR System’s drills to develop mental and physical strength and endurance, as well as how to teach these skills to members using CrossFit movements, terminology, and teaching methods. In addition, attendees learn the fear-management techniques that underpin the SPEAR System. The Trainer Course adds diversity to one’s programming and, more importantly, enhances the safety of one’s athletes.

Each day includes breakout sessions for demonstration and drilling of the SPEAR System. The lectures, demonstrations, presentations and breakouts all serve to expose the participants to CrossFit Defense’s foundational movements. The scenario-inspired drill sessions reinforce the practical application of the course content. Events rotate hourly (approximately) making for two dynamic and intensive training days.

  • 9 a.m.-6 p.m. with a 1-hour lunch break
  • Arrive at 8:30 a.m. on Day 1 to check in.



This default language for this course is English. A translation is usually provided in non-English-speaking countries, but inquire at for confirmation before registration.

To Bring
  • Printed version of the registration receipt.
  • Government-issued photo ID.
  • Notebook with pen/pencil or laptop.
  • Suitable clothes for working out.
  • Snacks and fluids, as well as a meal if you do not plan on going off-site during the lunch break.
  • Participants under 18 need to bring a waiver, completed and signed by his or her parent or legal guardian.  Under-18 participants may not participate in the course without this document at registration.
Credentials and Requirements

To receive a Defense Trainer Certificate, one must:
  1. Hold a valid and current CrossFit Level 1 Trainer Certificate (or a CF-L3);
  2. Attend and participate in all parts of the Defense Trainer Course; and
  3. Pass the oral and practical test.
If you do not meet these requirements, you are issued a Certificate of Attendance.

Payment Instructions

  • The fee for the CrossFit Defense Trainer Course is £416.50. Payment can be made via credit card or check. The final balance is due paid in full three weeks prior to the course or your spot will be forfeited. A £175 deposit is necessary to hold your place and payments may be made until three weeks prior to the course start date.

    Credit card payments can be made online during the course registration.
