Pre-Tour: Thursday, Sept. 29

A combined walking-driving tour of nearby sites, bookended by an investigation of the inner workings of a brewer and a distiller. Minimum of 12 registrants, and maximum of 20. Additional cost of $20 applies.

 Tour 1: Science & Cycling

For the more energetic among us, a gentle biking experience around the University of Saskatchewan campus, through Innovation Place and along the Meewasin Trail. Begins at the host hotel, the Bessborough and includes Rayner Dairy facility, the Ryan/ Dubé Equine Performance Centre and the Canadian Light Source synchrotron, a cyclic particle accelerator. Lunch stop at the Herbarium Room.

Note: There are limited spots on this tour due to bike rentals, so register early or you may be disappointed. AND, BIKE HELMETS ARE MANDATORY. No exceptions, no waivers. You must bring and wear your helmet.

Tour 2, South: Big Business on a Small Land Base

There’s no shortage of intensive agriculture in Saskatchewan. Meet a British berry processor – mature in years by any standard – who suddenly shifted gears and moved from England to the Prairies. We’ll also visit one of North America’s foremost national certifiers of organic and gluten-free products on their family’s organic farm, and explore the potential and benefits of irrigation on a river flood plain. Lunch stop is the Berry Barn – famous for their fruit pies and hearty down-home meals.

Tour 3, West: Living Large on the Land

Visit the kind of agriculture Saskatchewan is best known for: the big kind. Think Prairie-grain-blowing-in-the-breeze-at-sunset shots. The day will include a tour of the Parrish & Heimbecker elevator at Hannover Junction and a visit to the Eagle Creek Hutterite Colony. Delegates will also tour Scharf Farms, a large grain farm, and learn about the Scharf’s entrepreneurial father, who invented EZEE Wrap and built a golf course. Lunch is at Perdue Oasis, a thriving picturesque golf resort on once-barren rolling hills.
