40 Years and Counting!
Join us as we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Cape May Bird Observatory, which coincides with the 40th anniversary of the legendary Cape May Hawkwatch. Not only that, it's the 70th consecutive Fall weekend event by New Jersey Audubon.
We're making it memorable with lots of special guests, including a whole kettle of former hawk counters, many of whom will participate in a panel discussion, "Tales from the Platform," on Friday night, moderated by Jeff Bouton. And Saturday night, we're taking a break from recent history, and offering a buffet dinner, followed by a presentation by one of the Cape May originals, David Sibley. There are many exclusive walks, trolley trips, a Trip to the Rips on Sunday afternoon and an overnight pelagic trip departing Sunday night and returning Monday afternoon.
In addition, this three-day festival will showcase our migration monitoring work: the Cape May Hawkwatch, Avalon Seawatch, Monarch Monitoring Project and Morning Flight Songbird Count.
Due to the 40th anniversary of CMBO and the Hawkwatch, we are still receiving ideas and offerings, and we are likely to keep adding additional programs that are included in registration. Check the website from time to time for new additions.
Until September 30th, registration fees are $65 per day, or $175 for all three days, with additional costs for bus trips, special walks, and evening programs. As of October 1st, daily registration will increase to $75 per day, and $200 for all three days. Preregistration is required and some events have limited capacity, so please sign up now.
At the same time, the Cape May Convention Hall will be open and free to the public and will again feature
Jonathan Wood's Raptor Project
, a stunning collection of live hawks, eagles, owls, and falcons with multiple interactive shows per day, along with dozens of vendors, from binoculars, to scopes to apparel, and nature activities for kids, too.
You may use this website to register for the Festival, and select your walks, boat trips, special walks, etc., which are only open to official registrants. The evening programs, the Sunday afternoon mini pelagic, and the Sunday overnight mega pelagic can be purchased separately here by partial registrants.
It's going to be a great weekend in Cape May and we can't wait to see you here!
