2017 WECAN EC Educators Conference

Spring Valley, New York
Friday, February 10, 2017

We are very pleased that our speaker this year will be Susan Perrow from Australia, the author of Therapeutic Storytelling and Healing Stories for Challenging Behaviour. Susan is a writer, storyteller, teacher trainer and parent educator and for the last 30 years she has been documenting stories from other cultures, writing stories and telling stories to groups of children and adults – all this woven in with a career in teaching and teacher training in Australia, Africa, Asia, Europe, and the US/Canada.

Together with Susan we will explore the ways that we can support the development of the children in our care - especially during times of stress or difficulty - by creating  stories for a particular child and for a group of children.

Suggested pre-conference reading includes the following:

Childhood Falls Silent: The loss of speech and how we need to foster speaking and communication in the electronic age, by Rainer Patzlaff*

The Creative Word - The Young Child’s Experience of Language and Stories by Daniel Udo de Haes*

And, of course, Therapeutic Storytelling and Healing Stories for Challenging Behaviour by Susan Perrow.

*available through WECAN Books at store.waldorfearlychildhood.org

Workshops, mini-sessions, and work-alike sessions will address various aspects of the conference theme and our work with children from birth to school entrance and their families. The conference will also offer a puppetry performance by colleagues from the Great Barrington Rudolf Steiner School, choral singing with Eleanor Winship, and a performance by Eurythmy Spring Valley.  The vendor hall will be open on Friday afternoon as well as all day Saturday, and information on training centers and sponsor organizations will be on display in the Hospitality Room.

Attendance at the conference is open to those who are active in Waldorf early childhood education., as well as educational support teachers, care group members, eurythmists, and class teachers. Registrations are on a first-come, first-served basis.  Please register early to ensure a place!  Online registration is open from December 9th through January 20th.  If you have any questions please email us at conference@waldorfearlychildhood.org or call Andrea Cooper at 508-322-7018.
