Course Description:

Children today are less active than ever, yet record numbers are being diagnosed with hyperactivity. What both extremes need is meaningful movement — physical activity combined with processes that fully engage the mind, heart and imagination. What’s needed is Yoga Calm.

Learn this integrative approach to education with the latest brain research, simple classroom movement and body-based therapies and 20 new physical activities and games that safely develop strength, flexibility and health awareness for PreK-12 students.

Yoga Calm has developed from over 35 years of classroom, counseling and research experience and research-supported methods showing that teaching mindfulness, social-emotional skills and movement develops attention, happiness and academic success. Its college-accredited courses, award-winning materials and classroom-tested methods support thousands of parents, educators and therapists.

Course Objectives

  • Learn how to successfully bring the benefits of mindfulness, yoga-based movement and social/emotional activities to classrooms/therapeutic settings.
  • Develop teacher best practices involving classroom behaviors, cognitive strategies, adaptations for specific populations, and applications for attention deficit hyperactivity, anxiety, depression and autism spectrum disorders.
  • Recognize, support and deepen physical and emotional health and well-being.
  • Learn how yoga-based movement can be used to effectively create an optimum level of arousal and as an intervention for populations with sensory integration challenges.
  • Create Integrative Lesson Plans within small groupings by grade level discipline and with sequencing adaptations for diverse abilities, including special needs students.

This workshop is designed for PreK-12 educators, college professors, parents, counselors, treatment center staff, occupational therapists, yoga teachers, and any other adults that work with children. No yoga experience necessary for this course.
