Course Description
Third in the Yoga Calm Integrated Approach to Wellness curriculum series, this course introduces participants to 20 new social/emotional skill development games and wellness activities from the award-winning Yoga Calm program curriculum. Developed from over 30 years of school teaching and counseling experience, teachers, counselors and related support staff will learn new tools for directly addressing the need for social/emotional guidance and support in school/therapeutic settings.

Course Objectives
Following the CASEL model, students will learn engaging and effective activities for helping students develop self awareness, self management, social awareness, relationship and responsible decision-making skills including the following.

  • Nervous system regulation skills using yoga and mindfulness to recognize when our students (and us) are dysregulated and then what activities are best to either to calm or release emotional energy in safe and supportive ways.
  • Classroom-tested SEL skill development activities in friendship skills, emotional communication, personal boundaries, and with bullying prevention recognizing and responding to feelings,
  • The use of storytelling and symbolic language to help children learn about different aspects of themselves and develop psychological strength and imagination
  • Best practices for managing classroom behaviors, including adaptations for specific populations and applications for attention deficit, hyperactivity, anxiety, depression and autism spectrum disorders.
  • Lesson Plans and daily practices to help prevent the need for interventions.
  • Effective interventions based upon 35+ years of classroom, counseling and clinical experience.
In addition, case histories will also be used to highlight and develop successful strategies and techniques useful for working with a broad range of student needs. The use of story-telling and symbolic language will also be covered. In small groupings by discipline and grade level, participants will develop Integrative Lesson Plans to support and deepen healthy emotional expression that can be used right away in participants’ work with students.
