Course Overview

New this year - 3 additional hours of hands-on skills practice included in Friday session!


This course is designed to provide the participant with an understanding of the applications of limited OB ultrasound. Teaching methods integrate didactic content and 7 hours of hands-on scanning practicum with pregnant women for AP Providers / MDs. Topics include an introduction to ultrasound physics and instrumentation, fetal anatomy and biometry, amniotic fluid index, first trimester dating and markers of aneuploidy.     

Each registrant will be provided with a programmed learning DVD or USB entitled "Obstetric Ultrasonography: Normal and Abnormal Findings." This self-learning tool contains 24 interactive chapters filled with diagrams, images and videos covering fetal biometry and anatomy in all trimesters including both normal and abnormal findings as well as the placenta, biophysical testing, physics and instrumentation. Registrants will be provided with a list of chapters that should be studied prior to the course*. The DVD/USB runs on current Windows and Macintosh operating systems. 

*Note:  the information recommended for review before the workshop will only be referenced in the didactic portion of the workshop - it will NOT be covered again and subsequent information will build upon knowledge gained from the DVD/USB. Please come prepared.

If you register by August 31, the DVD/USB will be mailed to your home.  After 8/31, the DVD/USB can be picked up at our offices by appointment only. Otherwise you will receive your DVD/USB during morning sign-in on September 22nd.

Target Audience
**
Health Care Professionals who desire increased skill and knowledge about the use of limited OB ultrasound in their practice. Advanced practice nurses (CNM, WHNP, FNP), physician assistants, and family practice physicians and residents will benefit from a comprehensive didactic program and a hands-on practicum. The program will be useful to those in hospital and ambulatory clinic settings, and for those working in the specialties of maternal, fetal, or women's health care. 

CNMs who are considering sitting for the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification exam for midwifery professionals, will receive information included within each of the following exam content areas: 
  1. Focused gynecologic ultrasound exams 
  2. Focused first trimester OB exams 
  3. Focused second and third trimester OB exams 
  4. Using the ultrasound system - ultrasound physics and technologies More specific exam information will be provided during the workshop.
**Note: This program is not designed for the provider with significant OB ultrasound experience or looking for advanced GYN skills. Please call if you have any questions.

Continuing Education Credit
Nursing (CNE credit) 
The University of Colorado College of Nursing is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Western Multi-State Division, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

This educational program for 9.3 contact hours for Friday and 4.0 contact hours for Saturday is provided by the University of Colorado College of Nursing, Office of Continuing Education.

American College of Nurse Midwives (CEUs)
ACNM specialty credit has been applied for.

Medicine (CME) 
This Live activity, Limited Obstetrical Ultrasound Workshop, with a beginning date of 09/22/2017, has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 12.75 Prescribed credit(s) by the American Academy of Family Physicians.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.  

AAFP Prescribed credit is accepted by the American Medical Association as equivalent to AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)TM toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award.  When applying for the AMA PRA, Prescribed credit earned must be reported as Prescribed, not as Category 1.

If you find you are unable to attend, please read this policy carefully.

Our programs are priced to provide the best value possible for current healthcare CE. Because of this, it is important to provide registration opportunities to all those interested in attending within the capacity allowable.   

If you request cancellation by 5:00 pm on Friday, September 8, 2017 the following refund policy will apply: 

Registration Fee minus $250.00 cancellation fee for the full workshop and $175 for Friday only. 

No refunds will be granted after 9/8/17.

If the College of Nursing must cancel the event, a full refund minus handling fees will be granted to participants.
