Map and Directions
The NMU Wildcat and Rec Sports Department is hosting two summer training clinics for area competitive swimmers.

Spring Swim Training Clinic

The spring after-school training clinic for competitive swimmers will be held for five weeks from May 15 through June 8, Monday through Thursday from 3-5 pm for middle school and high school athletes and 4-5 pm for elementary school/age group swimmers.  Athletes will swim for endurance and conditioning, be given technical instruction and be introduced to some dynamic dryland exercises.  All training will take place at the NMU PEIF pool with NMU Rec Sports staff and oversight by NMU Head Swim Coach Heidi Voigt and Wildcat Assistant Coach Matt Williams and team members.  The program is open to all swimmers with some competitive experience and training will be tailored to the athlete’s skills and desire.  Minimum requirements are the ability to swim 100 yards continuously using both freestyle with rotary breathing and backstroke. The clinic will not be held on Monday, May 29 due to the Memorial Day holiday.

Springboard Diving Fundamentals Clinic

The spring after-school training clinic for diving will also be held for five weeks from May 15 through June 8, Monday through Thursday from 3-5 pm for any individuals aged 8-18 that are interested in learning Springboard Diving. Athletes will learn basic dives and somersaults in every direction, as well as learning basic twisting dives.  The comprehensive, level-based curriculum will focus not only on water-board diving, but also on trampoline, dryland, and other conditioning exercises including body awareness, flexibility and air awareness.  All divers will learn skills on the 1m springboard, and divers over the age of 13, or by parental request, will begin learning a basic list on the 3m springboard at instructor’s discretion. All training will take place at the NMU PEIF pool with NMU Rec staff and under the guidance of NMU Swimming and Diving’s varsity athletes Kyle Flickinger and Angela Probstfeld. The program is open to any and all athletes ages 8-18. ABSOLUTELY NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY, although a background in other sports, such as gymnastics and dance, translate easily into diving. All participants must also be able to jump into water over their head and swim at least 25 yards without stopping. If enough interest is shown, the Diving clinic will return for a summer session. The clinic will not be held on Monday, May 29 due to the Memorial Day Holiday.

Summer Competitive Swimming Endurance Clinic

The swimming endurance clinic will run for seven weeks, June 12 through July 28, Monday through Friday from 8-10am for the elite training group and 8-9:15am for age group swimmers.  Elite level swimmers will receive advanced endurance and technique training including some dryland exercises and use of Power Tower and resistance equipment.  Age group swimmers will train with focus on drills, technique and development of starts and turns.  All training will take place at the NMU PEIF pool under the guidance of NMU Head Coach Heidi Voigt and Assistant Coach Matt Williams along with other NMU Rec Sports staff.  The program is open to all swimmers with some competitive experience and training will be tailored to the athlete’s skills and desire.  Minimum requirements are the ability to swim 100 yards continuously using both freestyle with rotary breathing and backstroke.  Enrollment in the elite training program requires self-motivation and a desire to improve overall physical fitness as well as swimming technique. Clinic will not be held on July 3-4 due to Independence Day or July 10-13 due to NMU resident swim camp.
