COST: $50 – includes the Permit to Install Workbook

For anyone required to obtain an air permit or who is interested in learning more about the air permit process, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality's Air Quality Division offers the Air Permit to Install Workshop.

The first part of the workshop will address what constitutes an administratively complete application, explain what must be included in a complete application, and include a question-and-answer session.  The second part of the workshop allows attendees to choose between:

  • Learning about “Potential to Emit” – an integral part of every permit application, or
  • A One-on-One session with a permit engineer if they have project-specific questions.

Learning about “Potential to Emit (PTE)” will provide more advanced information this topic than that provided in Part 1 of the workshop. This presentation is ideal for those who have never prepared emission calculations for a Permit to Install or would like to understand why these calculations are necessary for the permit application.

A One-on-One Session with an engineer is best for persons fitting one or more of the following criteria:

  • You have already prepared initial emission calculations for your project.
  • You expect to submit an air permit application in the next few months.
  • You see a need for changes in your existing air permit (e.g., production increase, changes in monitoring, new raw materials, equipment modifications, etc.).
  • You have project-specific questions related to an air permit.
