Statement of Purpose: This year's conference will bring together the tools to assist Iowa's family support and early childhood professionals in creating greater positive growth for children, families and communities. This diverse line-up of national and state experts, beginning and advanced workshops, and networking opportunities are centered on increasing knowledge, building skills, and encouraging collaboration across Iowa. 

Target Audience:
This conference is intended for anyone working to prevent child abuse in Iowa including: family support professionals; parent educators and supervisors; members of local child abuse prevention councils; parents; Early Childhood Iowa board members and service providers; CPPC representatives; Family Development and Self Sufficiency and Healthy Opportunities for Parents to Experience Success staff; teachers; school administrators; substance abuse treatment providers; family law attorneys; health care professionals; social workers; counselors; public officials; family violence counselors; and advocates for children and families.

Objectives: Conference attendees will:

  • Explain how child abuse prevention intersects with other sectors to better strengthen families
  • Recognize how to work with diverse populations
  • Generate components for working collaboratively to create greater community change
  • Coordinate with statewide agencies and services providing services to Iowa families

Continuing Education: The conference will offer continuing education units (CEUs) for social workers (8.75 credit hours), nurses (please see below) and foster parents.  Please see below for session specific information.  Attendees seeking credit must sign in and provide licensing numbers where appropriate.

IBON Provider #94 awards up to 1.08 Nursing CEUs with up to .63 CEUs available on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 and up to .45 CEUs available on Wednesday, May 3, 2017. (CEUs will NOT be provided for the Pre-Conference Session as well as sessions B, I, P, X, Y, and EE.) No partial CEUs will be issued.

Pre-conference Registration (May 1, 2017): The pre-conference will allow family support workers opportunity to hone daily practices through specialized break-out sessions. Registration includes refreshments. All registrations must be received by April 7, 2017.

Conference Registration (May 2-3): Registration includes lunch and refreshments on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 2nd and 3rd.  Registration for the two-day session is limited to 600 people. All registrations must be received by April 7, 2017.

Parking: Parking is available at the Iowa Events Center for $8/day, or you may enjoy the free shuttle service from the hotel.  

Cancellations: Cancellations must be submitted via e-mail to Those who cancel by Friday, April 7, 2017, will receive a refund of their registration fees, minus a $30 administration charge. No refunds will be made for cancellations received after Friday, April 7, 2016. All refunds will be issued after the conference. Substitutions are okay.
