Celebrating 41 Years of Service!
For over 40 years, the Carole Robertson Center for Learning has been educating, enriching and empowering children and families on the west side of Chicago through quality child and family development programs. Every spring we hold an Annual Celebration to celebrate the volunteers and donors who make this possible, and raise funds in support of our programs. This year’s celebration, “Educating, Enriching, and Empowering Children and Families,” will take place on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Venue One located at 1034 W. Randolph Street in Chicago. ABC 7 Chicago’s Leah Hope will serve as the Mistress of Ceremonies for the event.
Each day, over 650 children and their families rely on the Carole Robertson Center for Learning’s center and home-based services, which are made possible with the support of individuals and businesses from the broader community like yours. Join us in making a significant impact on our children, families, and communities! Come be apart of our Annual Celebration!
This event is an important fundraiser, securing funds in support of our child, youth, and family development programs. As a non-profit agency, the Carole Robertson Center for Learning relies heavily on donations and fundraising to meet the costs necessary to provide quality, comprehensive services to our families, as we have done for over 40 years. With your help, we can reach our fundraising goal of $90,000 for this event.
Your participation will add to the fun and will mean so much to the families we serve in the North Lawndale, Little Village, and Near West Side communities of Chicago. We hope you will be able to join us as we celebrate 41 years of service and the corporate, community, and individual volunteers and donors who make our programs possible.
In 1983, the
Carole Robertson Center Memorial Scholarship
was established to help current program participants and alumni of the Center’s
School Age and Youth Development programs. It is awarded to accomplished youth who are pursuing higher education. We’re very excited to once again recognize the accomplishments of those who go through our programs as they continue their pursuit of higher education.
Three awards will be presented to our corporate and community partners – without their support our work would be severely limited. The following three awards will be presented at this year’s Annual Celebration:
Accenture – Curba Merrill Friend of the Center Award
This award honors corporate groups who have demonstrated a commitment to the Center and dedication to our work over time with volunteer, in-kind, monetary, and other types of support.
Accenture began supporting the Center in 2008 when employees from multiple
departments volunteered with our Early Childhood Education programs, assisted during ESL classes for parents, and their Women’s Group created learning baskets for mothers in our programs and organized donations of arts and crafts supplies. In 2011, we awarded Accenture with the Corporate Volunteer Group of the Year Award for their volunteer support. Most recently in 2016, employees also volunteered with our After School Enrichment program. Over the years the Center has welcomed a total of 44 volunteers from Accenture. Accenture employees also contributed monetary donations throughout the years by participating in our Annual Holiday Gift Giving Project, sponsoring over 115 of the Center’s children since 2010! In 2016, Accenture employees helped us surpass our Annual Appeal goal by raising over $3,500 during the holidays in support of our children and families and have played a major role in helping reshape the Resource Development Committee of the Board of Directors.
MB Financial Bank – Corporate Group of the Year
This award honors corporate groups who make important contributions to the Center through hard work and dedication, providing invaluable service. Awardees make significant contributions to the Center throughout the year in the form of ongoing volunteer and charitable support.
MB Financial employees have shown their support of the Center by volunteering during their annual MB on the Block Volunteer Day since 2014. Volunteers have assisted with our Early Childhood Education Program at our Little Village and North Lawndale locations throughout the years and continue to volunteer on an annual basis. Since 2014, MB Financial employees have volunteered over 50 hours in Carole Robertson Center classrooms. MB Financial has also supported the Carole Robertson Center’s Annual Celebration since 2013, when they first attended the event. In 2014 & 2015 they sponsored the event as a Silver sponsor, and became an Educator sponsor in 2016 and 2017. Through their continued support of the Annual Celebration, MB has helped us reach our fundraising goal each year.
Ron Springer – Volunteer of the Year
This award honors outstanding volunteer service to the Carole Robertson Center. Awardees make significant contributions to the Center throughout the year by sharing their time, talents, and resources that would not otherwise be available to the Center with children, youth, families, and staff.
Ron Springer began supporting the Center in 2013 with our 50th Anniversary Commemoration event at Saint Ignatius College Prep by volunteering and donating his on-site production services. Ron secured staging as well as AV and sound equipment. Since 2014, Ron Springer and his company, Esprit Productions, have executive produced the Center’s Annual Celebration which includes creating videos, logos, stage & lighting and slides resulting in thousands of dollars worth of production costs donated to the Center. Their services have provided our events with use of the most cutting-edge technology that the Center otherwise could not afford while also producing beautiful events with each event topping the last. In addition to event production, Ron has volunteered and participated in our annual Holiday Gift Giving Project and smaller fundraising events.
