Dear CAMI/M3 community,
We enthusiastically invite you to attend you a joint CAMI (Critical Assessment of Metagenomic Interpretation) and Spring 2017 M3 (Mid-Atlantic Microbiome Meetup) workshop. The overarching theme of this workshop will be assessment and standards for metagenome interpretation, with special focus on long reads and strain level evaluation. This joint workshop will take place on Sunday, May 7th and Monday, May 8th at the University of Maryland College Park, and will be preceded by a 3-day CAMI2 hackathon taking place from Wednesday, May 3rd through Friday May 5th (hosted at CBCB, University of Maryland College Park).
What is CAMI?
CAMI, or the “Critical Assessment of Metagenome Interpretation” (http://www.cami-challenge.org ), was founded in 2014 to evaluate computational methods in metagenomics independently, comprehensively and without bias. The aim of this initiative is to supply users with exhaustive quantitative data about the performance of methods in all relevant scenarios. It will therefore guide users in the selection and application of methods and in their proper interpretation. Furthermore, it will provide valuable information to developers, allowing them to identify promising directions for their future work.

What is M3?
The overarching goal of M3 is to enable and spur interactions within the very broad community of scientists interested in microbiome within the (loosely defined) Mid-Atlantic region, including academia, government, and industry participants alike. The goal of this website is to serve as a landing page for all things M3, in addition to providing a website for updates and news associated with microbiome research, challenges, and opportunities.
Discussion/talks on standards in metagenome interpretation
Lightning talk session focusing on emerging technologies and standardization challenges
Software school focusing on software benchmarking, validation, with an overview of bioboxes.
We look forward to seeing you at CAMI2+M3!
