About ​the ​seminar: Cost $50.00

This is ​an ​introduction ​to ​cave ​rescue. ​ ​Topics ​covered ​include ​Incident ​Command ​System ​and ​how ​it ​applies ​to ​cave ​rescues, ​medical ​management, ​hypothermia, ​patient ​packaging, ​litter movement, the ​cave ​environment, ​communications, ​media ​interaction, ​search, ​and ​more. ​There ​will ​be ​both ​classroom ​and ​hands ​on ​instruction, ​and ​the ​students ​will ​run ​a ​mock ​incident.  This will not cover technical rigging.  All students must sign a liability waiver.  All gear must be compliant with the National Park White Nose Syndrome policy (nothing that has been used in a WNS state or one next to a WNS state.  Students must sign a NPS declaration to this effect.


 Camping will be at the Crystal Cave parking lot.  Students are encouraged to arrive Friday night.  There are toilets but no showers.  It will be a half mile walk to the cave on both days for litter practice and the mock rescue.


All course equipment will be provided except for personal equipment.

Registrants will be required to have the following available for inspection at check-in:

UIAA, CE, or ANSI/NFPA approved helmet with a three or four point suspension

system and non-elastic chinstrap.

Rugged clothing for outer layer with synthetic clothing as base layer. Sturdy, lugged-sole boots. Well-fitting, leather gloves.  Clothing should be durable or disposable.

Three sources of light, at least two must be helmet mountable.  All must be sufficient to allow you to exit the cave. Spare batteries.

Durable water bottle. High energy, packable snacks.

Small personal first-aid kit. Any “personal” necessities.

Small, heavy-duty pack for carrying personal gear underground.

Additional Recommended Equipment:

2 heavy duty, contractor grade, plastic garbage bags (42 gallon size or larger)

Knee pads (highly recommended)
