Course Description:

This course will discuss the role of exercise for the management of patients with neck pain disorders using a research informed approach. The course will consider theory (Day 1) and practice (Days 1 and 2) in the examination and management of motor and sensorimotor systems and have a practical emphasis therapeutic exercise prescription and progression. 

Course Objectives:
Day 1: 6.25 Contact Hours or .6 CEU’s (Lecture with Patient Cases)

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
• Review of the neuromuscular impairments found  in patients with neck pain disorders
• Assessment and management of sensorimotor disturbances in neck pain including impaired proprioception, oculomotor control disturbances and impaired balance. 
• Overview of the similarities and differences between whiplash-induced pain and idiopathic neck pain and the implications for management 
• Consider the impact of central sensitization on rehabilitation
• Key principles of evidence based therapeutic exercise for neck pain disorders. 
• Presentation of the overall management of patients with neck pain disorders 

Day 2: 6.25 Contact Hours or .6 CEU’s (Lab Session-Limited to 27)
Demonstrations and practical session including:
• movement analysis and specific muscles tests for the cervical region
• a specific exercise approach for managing cervical neuromuscular dysfunction
• movement analysis and specific muscles tests for the scapular region
• an exercise approach for managing axio-scapular muscle  dysfunction
• assessing and managing sensorimotor impairments (impaired proprioception, oculomotor control disturbances and impaired balance)
