MATH TRAINING - ORANGE COUNTY

The Instructional Practice Guide is a streamlined, practical classroom observation tool focused on highlighting college and career ready standards-aligned practices in Mathematics instruction. This engaging day-long training sessions will focus on learning to use the Instructional Practice Guide and supporting resources with authentic classroom videos, lesson plans, and student work. The training will include opportunities for attendees to plan for integrating the Instructional Practice Guide and supporting resources into their existing work.

Who Should Attend:

COE personnel: Differentiated Assistance team members, Math content specialists, coaches & lead teachers for COE schools.

What Participants Can Expect to Gain from this Training:

  • A deep understanding of the Instructional Practice Guide and its Core Actions and Indicators.
  • Experience observing the instructional shifts in play in Mathematics classrooms using the Instructional Practice Guide via video study.
  • An understanding of how to evaluate and gather the evidence needed to calibrate on what excellent standards-aligned instructional practices look like in the classroom.
  • Experience analyzing lesson plans and student work through the lens of the Instructional Practice Toolkit.
  • Focused team planning time with expert advisors to consider and test the role of the Instructional Practice Guide as a tool for qualitative improvement of practice.
  • Practical knowledge of the Instructional Practice Toolkit resources to help answer questions such as:
  • Are curriculum and instruction aligned in our classrooms?
  • Where is excellent aligned instruction happening? How can we highlight and share those practices?
  • What questions can I ask to prompt insights toward improved practices?
  • What adjustments could be made to improve outcomes for students?
