Effective school and district leaders constantly cultivate the skills, capabilities, and practices necessary to collaborate with teachers, analyze achievement data, identify and set goals, influence the delivery of instruction, and manage the change process. How leaders think about their work and the manner in which they respond to others within their sphere of influence shapes the culture of our schools and districts.

Course Expectations
Participants must read all materials and, using the tools and concepts presented in the institute, create an action plan to document one area where they will refine or change their practice next year: collective efficacy, building and supporting a highly effective system with mathematics, and leadership dispositions to grow a positive school climate. Participants will discuss the topics online on the Alaska Professional Learning Network (AkPLN) and submit an action plan.

Course Evaluation
Attendance and Participation – 50%.
Final Project Reflection – 50%

All grades for institutes and school year courses must be submitted at the same time to the university. No grades can be submitted individually, earlier or later than the rest.

No grades of "incomplete" are allowed by APU;
participants who do not submit a paper by the due date will receive a failing grade for this class.
