The Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) is becoming increasingly important in the transformation of American healthcare.  While originally conceived as the physician IT liaison or clinical informatics lead in the deployment of electronic health records, the role is expanding.  The CMIO Survival Guide: A Crash Course is a one-day symposium focused on the practical issues facing those who aspire to be a CMIO, new CMIOs, and CMIOs who want to move to the next level.

Many CMIOs are the only physician informaticist in their organization.  The Crash Course provides the opportunity for joint problem solving and exploration of common challenges in a practical conversation-based format.  Participants are surveyed in advance regarding the topics they want to address.  Through a combination of presentations and facilitated discussions, attendees share experiences with each other and discuss lessons learned with AMDIS pioneers and healthcare industry thought leaders.  Recent topics have included:
  • From Medical Informatics to Health Informatics: Organizing for Success
  • Successful Career Strategies for CMIOs: CMIO 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0
  • Beyond EHRs & Meaningful Use: Implications of Interoperability, Analytics, Care Management & Patient Engagement
  • Supporting the Healthcare Enterprise: From Acute to Ambulatory to Post-Acute and Population Based Care
  • Communicating with the C-Suite/Relationship to the CIO on the Role of Informatics
  • Measuring Value and Return on Investment
Who Should Attend: New CMIOs, CMIOs taking their role to the next level, and executives exploring the creation of the CMIO role

Led By: AMDIS board members, leading CMIOs and physicians, and HIT thought leaders

Cost: $445 per attendee

According to previous attendees: “The CMIO Survival Guide Crash Course provided new insight on my role as a CMIO, and the direction I want to move my career.”

“Lessons from experienced CMIOs and the opportunity to discuss specific challenges with my peers was valuable.”

“Networking with other new CMIOs has provided me long term connections to reach out to.”

“I’ve attended multiple times, the topics change based on what is timely and the emerging issues I face as a CMIO.”
