Course Description:

This one day course will highlight current research and clinical expertise from a broad base of clinicians for the evaluation and treatment of musculoskeletal shoulder disorders.  The symposium will cover a wide range of topics that have direct clinical application. Current literature and clinical expertise will be used to enable clinical decision-making for the evaluation, surgical and non-surgical management of patients with musculoskeletal shoulder disorders.  This course is designed for physical therapists, athletic trainers, occupational therapists, and physicians.


Course Objectives:

Upon completion, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe pathomechanics and pathoanatomy for the diagnosis and management of common shoulder disorders.
  2. Select physical examination tests to diagnose musculoskeletal shoulder pain.
  3. Integrate findings from the evaluation to develop a treatment plan for the patient with musculoskeletal shoulder pain.
  4. Integrate findings from the physical examination to determine appropriate management strategies and interventions.
  5. Select interventions to target relevant impairments to restore function and prevent the development or recurrence of shoulder pain.
  6. Select outcome measures and performance tests appropriate to determine readiness to return to work and daily activities.

Intended Audience: 

Licensed Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants, and Athletic Trainers.
