Map and Directions

Dear M3 community,

We enthusiastically invite you to attend the 2018 Winter M3 (Mid-Atlantic Microbiome Meetup) at the University of Maryland College Park. The theme of this workshop will be Biodefense and Pathogen detection.

Note: this is a joint conference between the Center for Health-related Informatics and Bioimaging  (CHIB) and M3. One of our goals for this winter event is to create stronger connections across our campuses and region on pathogen detection, antibiotic resistance, and biodefense

What is M3?
The overarching goal of M3 is to enable and promote interactions within the very broad community of scientists interested in microbiome research around the (loosely defined) Mid-Atlantic region, including academia, government, and industry participants. This website serves as a landing page for all things M3, in addition to providing updates and news associated with microbiome research, challenges, and opportunities.

What is CHIB?
The Center for Health-related Informatics and Bioimaging (CHIB) is a multidisciplinary effort to address grand challenges in genomic research, medical information management and precision medicine in key areas like Parkinson's disease, cancer, autism and diabetes. CHIB combines advanced computing resources at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD) with clinical data and biomedical expertise at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB).

Agenda highlights
  • Keynote speakers: Dr. Rita Colwell (Founder and Chair, CosmosID & Distinguished University Professor, University of Maryland at College Park) and Dr. Tara O'Toole (Executive Vice President, In-Q-Tel & Director
  • Invited speakers: Dr. Dr. Nicholas Bergman (Senior Principal Investigator Genomics, NBACC), Dr. Stephanie Rogers (Deputy Director, B.Next)
  • Afternoon breakout session focused on Biodefense 'use-cases', analysis accuracy and speed tradeoffs, and viral/fungal pathogen detection.
  • Two short talk sessions (from selected from submitted abstracts).

We look forward to seeing you at the 2018 Winter M3!
