Conference Summary*

The technical committees of DFI and ADSC will combine their industry expertise to organize SuperPile ‘18. This three-day conference will include presentations on the latest developments in Driven Piles, Augered Cast-in-Place/Drilled Displacement Piles, Micropiles, Marine Foundations, Testing and Evaluation of Foundation Systems, Seismic and Lateral Loads, Drilled Shafts, Ground Improvement (related to piling) and Helical Piles and Tiebacks. Presentations also will highlight recommended practices for project safety and resiliency from design through construction. Special technical sessions will be presented on safe working platform design for rigs and cranes, concreting practices for deep foundations and selection of proper drilling methods for overburden drilling.

On Wednesday, June 27, DFI committees will meet in the afternoon to discuss progress on various committee projects and in the evening from 6:00-8:00pm the Women in Deep Foundations Committee will host a not-to-be-missed networking reception at the Haven Rooftop (purchase tickets separately).

On Thursday, June 28, plenary (combined) sessions will present a variety of technical topics.

Two parallel sessions on Friday June 29, will provide attendees the option to choose presentations of interest. Invited and selected presentations will highlight advancements, innovations and challenges in design and construction of deep foundations, particularly related to piling solutions. Equipment, material and instrumentation suppliers, contractors, engineers, and other vendors will present their services in our Exhibit Hall.

Technical Program Committee

Andrew Burns, P.E., of Underpinning & Foundation Skanska, Inc., is the SuperPile '18 chair, and he is supported by a dedicated group of industry professionals who serve on the program committee. View the Committee Listing here.

Andrew J. Burns, P.E., is vice president of engineering and estimating for Underpinning & Foundation Skanska, president of the ADSC Northeast Chapter, member of DFI, and the External Advisory Board of the civil engineering program at SUNY Stony Brook.

He graduated from City College of New York with a B.S. in civil engineering. In his senior year he met Stanley Merjan of Underpinning & Foundation Skanska, and went to work at the company after graduation. He has also worked as a project manager for Spearin, Preston, and Burrows; chief engineer for Intercoastal Foundations & Shoring; and as drilling operations manager for Posillico. Burns has worked on many NYC projects and has become an expert in drilled foundations, including drilled shafts and micropiles.

    Refunds for Registration will not be issued after Friday, June 1, 2018. However, you may transfer your registration to another DFI Member.

    Refunds for Exhibit Space will not be issued after Tuesday, May 18, 2018.

    Images of individuals may be captured by the Deep Foundations Institute (DFI) during events/activities organized and hosted by DFI using still photography, video or any other medium. DFI reserves the right to use such images on the DFI website, in Deep Foundations Magazine, in newsletters and/or other publicity material. By registering and/or participating in a DFI event/activity, the persons whose images are captured during such an event consent to the use of said images by DFI as described above.
