Date:        May 16, 17 & 18, 2018

Time:        9am - 2pm each day - registration begins at 8:30am

Training Description:
Are you looking to expand your leadership skills to take your program to the next level? If you answered yes, then attend NJSACC’s “Leading for Quality” training on Wednesday, May 16th through Friday, May 18th 2018 (9am - 2pm each day) in Westfield. This training is created specifically for you, New Jersey’s out-of- school time professionals, by the National Institute on Out-of- School-Time (NIOST). This year’s focus is to develop your expertise at the individual, program and community level. So, come learn how to strengthen your organization through a variety of hands on, experiential learning activities and leave with a program improvement plan specific to your site.

Goals of the Training:
To develop your leadership skills to influence change and impact the quality of your program by:
  • Learning how to apply contemporary leadership and change theories to the unique context of out-of- school time through social and emotional intelligence and mindfulness.
  • Examining issues common to OST and schools as well as national trends to step up advocacy efforts.
  • Becoming familiar with the NJ Quality Standards and how they can be used to guide program improvement opportunities in your program.
  • Learning how to create a program climate that fosters learning, celebrates diversity, encourages leadership behaviors and models team building.

Targeted Audience is Directors/Coordinators who are:
  • Ready to understand the impact of their own leadership styles;
  • Ready to apply leadership skills to influence change and impact program quality;
  • New to their program and/or from programs experiencing challenges;
  • Seeking to make changes in the management and operation of their program, for the success of the youth and staff
  • Previous attendees. Past participants are welcome to register in order to enhance their leadership skills and create a new action plan.

Training Content:
  • 3 days of hands-on, interactive training incorporating the NJ Quality Standards for Afterschool.
  • Trainer will assist directors in beginning to set goals for quality improvements.
  • Each participant will receive a comprehensive notebook for personal reflection and reference.

Last day to register will be May 9, 2018.
No refunds will be given after May 9, 2018 but substitutions can be made at any time.  

NIOST Training Associate's Biography:
Liz Joye, M.Ed.

Liz has been a NIOST trainer since 1989, bringing passion, knowledge and professionalism to her trainings through a variety of interactive and thought provoking activities around the topics of quality and leadership. Her role as national trainer and program improvement specialist allowed her to play a key role in the development of the After School Accreditation process for both NAA (National Afterschool Association) and COA (Council on Accreditation) for who she is currently an endorser and serves on their Commissioners board. Her varied professional experiences have afforded her the opportunity to work with schools, afterschool and summer programs in each of the fifty states and seven foreign countries. Liz was employed as an Educational Specialist for The Department of Army and worked out of the Installation Management Command for six years. In this position Liz provided technical assistance to after school programs and youth centers, conducted observations and provided feedback to improve program quality. She also directed an after school program in Charlotte, NC that was identified as one of the top ten in the country by Working Mother Magazine in the 1990’s.

Ms. Joye holds an M.A. in Educational Administration and a B.A. in Early Childhood Education. Liz and her husband reside near Charleston, SC.

“This project was funded in part with federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended by No Child Left Behind, Title IV, Part B, 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) grant funds through a grant agreement with the New Jersey Department of Education,” and open to all out-of- school time program directors/coordinators statewide.
