This class is designed to provide the basics of governmental accounting for “cash basis” accounting and reporting entities. The session is for individuals who work with or in the area of public finance but have little or no formal training. The concepts of governmental accounting are provided in a cash basis framework that will integrate the requirements of WA State.  It is a great class for
any staff (management, department heads, or other departments) who has limited exposure to governmental accounting and needs or wants to understand more. The class agenda will include:
  • Governmental Operations
  • Governmental Accounting & Measurement Focus
  • Fund Accounting
  • BARS – What and Why
  • Revenues and Other Financing Sources
  • Expenditures and Other Financing Uses
  • Interfund Activity
  • Debt
  • Budgeting
  • Reporting

There are exercises throughout the class so the participant can apply class room teachings to every day working examples. The format is intended to provide a learning environment that is relatable to the attendees working environment.  The class provides an excellent foundation on “cash basis” governmental accounting, the differences between Cash and GAAP accounting and why this method of accounting is being used in Washington state.
