Welcome to the the Denver Catholic Biblical and Catechetical Schools (part of the St. John Vianney Lay Division)!!

This class explores the history of the Catholic Church by examining its major figures, events, and writings. The first semester covers the years 33-476 AD and examines figures such as the early apologists, St. Irenaeus, Constantine, St. Athanasius, and St. Augustine. The second part covers the Fall of Rome to the Great Schism of 1054 AD, with events such as the rise of monastic life, the conversion of the barbarians, the beginnings of Islam, and the growth of the new culture of Christendom. Some of the major figures covered include St. Benedict, St. Gregory the Great, St. Columban, and Charlemagne. Both semesters will explore the expression of the Christian faith through art.
