Course Description:
This two-day Pilates Mat experience will teach you how to provide four basic Pilates Mat classes. A total of 18 basic exercises will be taught, including the underlying premise of each exercise, a rationale for teaching it, and the thought process behind their sequencing. Participants will be provided with ample experiences for real time practice of each of the four Pilates Mat sequences. Practice cards for each exercise are provided for use as a resource. The Pilates Immersion faculty will provide feedback to each participant pertaining to additional training and practice to become proficient with the Pilates Mat Immersion work. Gateway Online, a web-based self-study video, is included in the registration.

Course Objectives:
At the completion of this course, participants will be able to:

• Demonstrate ability to correctly execute 18 preparatory and original Pilates mat exercises.

• Understand the Pilates history, evolution and Polestar Pilates movement principles upon the completion of the online portion of the course.

• Identify anatomical landmarks necessary for teaching Polestar Pilates exercises.

• Apply the evidence-based principles of joint centration and neutral zone spine mechanics as they relate to the Pilates repertoire.

• Gain clarity on how injuries can occur and how to make mat-based classes safer for wider populations from an evidence – based perspective.

• Determine when to implement the exercises in order to produce/enhance biomechanical stability or mobility.

• Correctly identify the basic concepts and benefits applicable to each mat exercise.

• Understand the most common precautions and contraindications for each Pilates mat exercise.

• Correct most common movement faults according to the Gateway Concepts.

• Learn skillful cuing strategies to facilitate successful movement experiences.

• Teach four 30-60 minute mat classes that can be immediately implemented at your clinic, gym or facility to extend client access to quality-supervised services.

Intended Audience:
Beginner level, but all levels of movement experience are welcomed.  

  • This course is open to Health and wellness professionals, including PT/PTA’s, OT/OTA’s, DC’s, ATC’s and fitness instructors.
  • Maximum Faculty: Participant Ratio = 1:16
  • Type Of Course: Hybrid education consisting of web-based self-study and hands-on experiential lab.
