 WELCOME

Texas A&M University invites faculty and students to participate in the American College Dance Association's South-Central Conference, March 7th-11th, in College Station, Texas.  Our conference will be an exciting celebration of dance in higher education with a wide variety of master classes, scholarly research presentations, opportunities for student and faculty exchanges in and out of the studio, adjudication and informal concerts, feedback sessions and a Gala Concert. Additionally, special faculty seminars and workshops have been planned.

Down to a Science! Texas A&M University's Dance Science Program in the Department of Kinesiology invite you to join us this year for all of the same wonderful things you have come to love about ACDA conferences but with a a particular focus on Dance Science and Wellness. We are hosting two Dance Science specific guests and are encouraging faculty and students to submit research presentations in these fields. Our colleagues in the College of Architecture will be offering interactive technology workshops for participants and we will be offering some specialty classes using our Yoga Wall and some Pilates Reformer classes as well. The conference will kick off with a guest performance by Koresh Dance Company and the company members will be teaching classes for the first couple of days of the conference. 

ACDA values diversity and maintains a commitment to the development of conferences that reflect and give value to the various forms, styles, cultural traditions and aesthetic dimensions of dance in performance. We encourage attention to diversity within informal and adjudication concerts, master classes and panel discussions and/or lectures. All institutions and individuals are invited to attend and participate in the full array of scheduled events, whether or not you are planning to present choreography for adjudication. The experience of taking master classes, attending research presentations, viewing concerts, and listening to adjudicators' comments, as well as the energy exchange among dancers and faculty from other schools, has proven invaluable for our students, regardless of their levels of dance experience. Faculty also benefit from these experiences as well as the opportunity to present research and for peer response, among other professional development opportunities.
 
Conference attendance is open to ACDA members and non-members, although only members may register during the member priority period and only institutional members may present work in adjudication concerts. Additionally, members pay a discounted registration fee. If you have not yet joined ACDA, we urge you to do so to help further the important work we do for college and university dance programs and to receive the benefits of membership.

ACDA regional conferences provide the opportunity for students and faculty to have their dance works adjudicated by a panel of nationally recognized dance professionals in an open and constructive forum. We have arranged to have three dynamic and highly respected adjudicators, as well as a guest artist performance from Koresh to kick off the performance. While we would like to accommodate all who wish to attend our conference, space is limited and registration fills quickly. Please note registration opening dates in DEADLINES/FORMS. Our maximum capacity is 550 registrants and 48 adjudicated dances. In order to accommodate as many schools as possible, a registration cap of 20 students per school is in effect until Wednesday, October 24th.

Registration fees, information and instructions are available on the REGISTRATION page. It is highly recommended that you read Registration Instructions carefully before starting to register your group. 

Conferences often fill before the closing deadline and when we reach maximum capacity, we will be unable to accept additional participants. If you are closed out of the conference, adjudication or the informal concert, email the Conference Coordinator immediately to be put on the waitlist; be specific in your request. Your place on the waitlist is determined by the date and time of your email request.

Due to the rising costs of processing cancellations, as well as the negative impact on other ACDA members of holding then releasing registrations and adjudication slots, a $25.00 cancellation fee will be assessed on each individual registrant and a $75.00 cancellation fee will be assessed on each adjudication slot cancelled prior to full payment. There are no refunds on paid registrations. Register only the number of participants and reserve only the number of adjudication slots that you are committed to bringing.

 ADJUDICATION AT THE CONFERENCE

If you are interested in the adjudication process, please refer to ADJUDICATION on the ACDA website. Time and space will limit the number of dances we can adjudicate to no more than 48 adjudication pieces Dances will be accepted for adjudication, like registration, on a first registered-first accepted basis with payment (or proof of intention to pay) received within two weeks of registration. If payment is not received within that time frame, slots may be lost. If you choose to have two pieces adjudicated, at least one piece must be choreographed by a student. Please remember that you must be an ACDA institutional member in good standing to qualify for adjudication.

Parking will be in Lot 100 for the whole conference. This is situated opposite the PEAP building.

Each car parking on campus will need a parking pass for every day of the conference at a rate of $5 per day. All Parking Passes must be purchased by February 8, 2019. (If you are arriving on Thursday and staying for the whole conference, the parking pass for one car will cost $25 total.) All participants parking on campus without a parking permit do so at their own risk and may be subject to ticketing or towing.

We also have several parking garages on campus that are a pay by the hour and participants are welcome to use those at their own expense - these will not be covered by the "parking pass" the conference will be selling.

On campus food options are available the Memorial Student Center (MSC), located directly across from the Rudder Auditorium. Participants will be able to access the afternoon performance right after lunch.
