EEO/AFFIRMATIVE ACTION (CAAP) TRAINING

Registrants may work towards the completion of the Certified Affirmative Action Professional (CAAP) credential by registering for one, two or all three of the following courses:: 


July 15  - 16, 2019 Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action Law (16 hrs.)  
July 17 - 18, 2019  - Developing and Implementing an Affirmative Action Program (16 hrs.)
July 19 - 20, 2019 - Complaint Processing, Counseling and Resolution (16 hrs.)

If you wish to attend the entire six-day course schedule to receive the CAAP, the charge is the 16 hour rate times three.

TITLE IX LAW AND INVESTIGATIONS COURSE

Title IX – Legal Overview and Best Practices for Conducting Investigations (8 hrs.) This course provides an overview of the requirements of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. Discussions will include the previous and current legal landscape around Title IX, an institution’s obligation and liability to report and investigate Title IX-based grievances, and best practices. This course will also provide an overview of Title IX Investigations, covering a range of topics including the investigations process practices for developing investigation techniques. It will also focus on recent enforcement activities of the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) including its focus on campus sexual assault. (Counts toward Sr. CAAP and recertification) (Certificate of Completion Awarded)

Our Title IX Instructor:  Richard Anthony Baker, MPA, JD, PhD


Despite Dr. Richard Anthony Baker being a native of Compton, California, he considers Texas to be his home. Soon after his arrival in 1994, Dr. Baker began college and eventually matriculated from the University of Texas at Austin with honors. After graduation, Dr. Baker attended Texas Tech University where he had the distinction of being the first African American to graduate from with a doctorate of jurisprudence and a Ph. D. (Higher Education). Dr. Baker currently serves as the Assistant Vice Chancellor and Vice President of the Office of Equal Opportunity Services (“EOS”) for the University of Houston System and University of Houston (“University”). As a clearinghouse for best practices in the area of diversity, affirmative action, and equal opportunity, EOS coordinates and enforces the federal and state equal opportunity regulations for the University. Specifically, Dr. Baker is responsible for managing the University’s affirmative action, anti-discrimination, and anti-harassment efforts, including providing administrative guidance, conducting formal investigations of complaints as well as providing prevention training for the entire University community.  Dr. Baker is President of AAAED for 2018 - 2020.

The Title IX course is a separate offering but occurs during the week of our EEO/AA training for the Certified Affirmative Action Professional credential.  You have to choose one (Title IX) or the other series/CAAP training, which begins on Monday and ends on Saturday if you want to take all three required courses for the CAAP.  You cannot take both the Title IX and the CAAP courses if you wish to receive the CAAP that week, as they run concurrently.

Substitution Policy: Substitutions of registrants for the Institute may be made at any time, but must be made in writing and submitted to AAAED. However, ONLY THE ATTENDEE will receive course credit for Institute training.

Cancellation Policy: ALL Institute cancellations made by the attendee are subject to a 30% service charge and must be received in writing no later than 21 business days prior to the event.  Registrants who do not cancel in writing prior to 21 days before the event will forfeit the entire fee. Cancellations received within 21 business days of the Institute will not be eligible for a refund.
