Intended Audience:  Any staff having direct or ancillary contact with aging adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities who are at risk for or who have developed dementia including, but not limited to: DSPs, Behavior Analysts, Adult Day Staff, Nurses, Psychologists, OT/PT/Speech/Activity Staff, Physicians, Administrative and Supervisory Staff, Program Managers, Case Workers, Quality Improvement Staff.

The two day foundation workshop focuses on the key concepts in dementia care.  Participants will learn the most up-to-date information, strategies and techniques for creating positive outcomes for clients and consumers who are at risk of or who have developed dementia,

You'll learn:
  • How Alzheimer's and related dementia's present and impact function in adults with I/DD.
  • The NTG's Early Detection and Screening for Dementia tool.
  • Strategies to strengthen communication and minimize behaviors.
  • The philosophy shift in care from "rehabilitation" to dementia-capable.
  • End-of-life considerations in dementia.

3 Day "Train-the-Trainer" Workshop

Join our national team of NTG Affiliated Regional Trainers.  

This workshop is for those wishing to become an "Affiliated NTG Regional Trainer." The first two days of the workshop are comprised of the 2 Day Foundation Workshop as described above. A third day is devoted to understanding and delivering the full NTG Dementia Capable Care Curriculum for those interested in becoming NTG Affiliated Regional Trainers.

NTG Affiliated Regional Trainers are authorized to use NTG branded and copyrighted training materials to train within their own agency or organization or to conduct training for outside agencies and organizations.  

Affiliated trainers become part of the NTG's national Affiliated Trainer network and have access to greatly expanded topic modules and training materials, trainer manual, free monthly NTG continuing education webinars, and are mentored by NTG Master Trainers.

The workshop will be led by NTG Training Committee Co-Chairs and NTG Lead Trainers  Kathleen Bishop, PhD & Kathryn Pears, MPPM and NTG Master Trainer, Helen Stepowany.
