Leading for Quality 2019

Expand your leadership skills and bring your program to the next level by building on your own social and emotional learning skills. Attend NJSACC's "Leading for Quality" training created specifically for you, New Jersey's out-of-school time professionals, on Wednesday, May 15th through Friday, May 17, 2019 (half days) in Westfield. This year's training by the National Institute on Out-of-School-Time (NIOST) will focus on developing your expertise as a leader to provide a quality program to your youth, their families, and your community. So, come learn how to strengthen your organization through a variety of hands on, experiential learning activities and leave with a program improvement plan specific to your site.

Goals of the Training:

To develop your leadership skills to influence change and impact the quality of your program by:

  • Learning how to apply contemporary leadership and change theories to the unique context of out-of-school time through social and emotional intelligence.
  • Becoming familiar with the NJ Quality Standards and how they can be used to guide program improvement opportunities in your program.
  • Learning how to create a program climate that fosters learning, celebrates diversity, encourages leadership behaviors and models team building.
  • Creating your own vision of quality OST using the concepts learned.

Targeted Audience is Directors/Coordinators who are:

  • Ready to understand the impact of their own leadership styles;
  • Ready to apply leadership skills to influence change and impact program quality;
  • New to their program and/or from programs experiencing challenges
  • Seeking to make changes in the management and operation of their program, for the success of the youth and staff.
  • Previous attendees welcome to register and continue to enhance their leadership skills and create a new action plan.

Training Content:

  • 3 days of hands-on, interactive training incorporating the NJ Quality Standards for Afterschool.
  • Trainer will assist directors in beginning to set goals for quality improvements.
  • Each participant will receive a comprehensive notebook for personal reflection and reference

Date:        May 15, 16 & 17, 2019
Time:        9am - 2pm each day - registration begins at 8:30am
Place:       NJSACC, 170 Elm Street, Westfield, NJ 07090
Cost:         $120 per person includes breakfast, lunch and materials each day

Last day to register or cancel a registration is May 8th.  No refunds will be given after May 8, 2019, however, substitutions can be made at any time.

"This project was funded in part with federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended by No Child Left Behind, Title IV, Part B, 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) grant funds through a grant agreement with the New Jersey Department of Education," and open to all out-of-school time program directors/coordinators statewide.
