The Classification of Workers as Independent Contractors
Tuesday, October 01, 2019 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM (Pacific Standard Time)

With the advent of the gig economy, legislatures and courts are reviewing the classification of workers as independent contractors because of the societal implications of an increased number of workers not being covered by employment law protections and insurance safety nets. In this webinar, we will discuss: (1) the various definitions of “employee” used under different employment laws and how these definitions are interpreted by the courts; (2) the manner in which a worker or government agency can challenge an independent contractor classification; and (3) the risks associated with misclassification. Checklists and sample independent contractor agreements will be provided.
