Rosalie Greenberg, MD
Psychiatrist and Author of "Bipolar Kids"
The number of youth given the diagnosis of bipolar disorder (BPD) in the past decade has increased dramatically. The purpose of this conference is to help participants be able to correctly identify the different presentations of pediatric BPD, learn to differentiate BPD from other childhood disorders e.g. ADHD, and to familiarize them with different therapeutic interventions. Video clips of BPD youth and their families will be used to demonstrate different points during the program.
By completion of the conference, attendees should be able to:
1. Explain the differences in the clinical presentation of bipolar disorder in adults vs. children.
2. Distinguish if a child has ADHD, BPD or both.
3. Recognize BPD symptoms in autistic spectrum youth.
4. Discuss the need for a multifaceted treatment approach including psychotherapy, psycho- education of the family and the individual, possible school intervention, and the role of medication.
