This second in a series of Yoga Calm® workshops introduces participants to 20 new wellness activities and class plans that safely develop strength, flexibility, fitness and health awareness for K-12 children. Through lecture, hands-on learning, reflection and discussion, you’ll learn how Yoga Calm’s unique integration of physical, mental and emotional skills-building supports both learning and health.

Suitable for all levels of abilities, with no yoga experience necessary, this workshop will provide you with the basic knowledge and ability to immediately begin teaching simple and safe yoga-based activities with detailed information on alignment, sequencing and adaptations for diverse abilities, including special needs students. 

Course outcomes:
 

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

 

·         Teach the use of cognitive strategies and activities to develop physical, mental and emotional strength.

·         Prepare children for learning with activities that reduce stress, create an optimum level of arousal and encourage greater organization of the sensory system.

·         Demonstrate and teach alignment principles for basic physical yoga poses.

·         Use provided sequences and/or develop their own class plans for diverse populations and settings such as classrooms, after-school clubs, SPED, occupational therapy, physical fitness/health classes, and counseling offices.

·         Lead partner exercises and social/emotional skill-development processes that encourage teamwork, focus, compassion, and listening skills.

 

This workshop is for school teachers, counselors, occupational therapists, treatment center staff, yoga teachers and other adults that work with children.

Offered in conjunction with Colorado State University.  1 CSU Graduate Credit, 15 Clock Hours and/or Professional Development CEUs available – certificate of training hours provided.  CSU registration forms available at the workshop.

Coursework also applies toward Yoga Calm Teacher Certification and qualifies for professional development credit.

The Course Fee is payable directly to Still Moving Yoga, LLC, and the CSU Credit Fee is payable to Colorado State University.

Prerequisite: Completion of Integrated Approach to Wellness 1.
