The Cronkite New Media Academy is a special program for people who want to understand and keep up with how communication is changing and participate in the new digital world of communications. We offer on-going training and workshops throughout the year at the Cronkite School’s new state-of-the-art building in downtown Phoenix.
Our approach is to introduce you to multimedia tools in small-group settings and give you time to practice under the direction of skilled media professionals.
Workshops are individually priced and Cronkite certificates of participation are offered at the conclusion of each workshop. All sessions are taught by trained Cronkite School professionals in small digital media labs, with an emphasis on practical hands-on training. Class size is limited to 20.
Participants in the academy come from a wide range of backgrounds and have a variety of goals. Some want to launch their own professional websites or businesses, some want to build personal websites, and others seeks to advance their careers by building their digital media skills.
Our workshops include:
Social Media for Professionals
Learn how and why to connect with others using Twitter, Facebook and other social networking tools. In this two-day workshop, you will practice effective blogging, microblogging, social networking and social bookmarking and learn how to use visual social media. For beginners and those who have some familiarity with social media tools.
June 24 and 25
Creating Your Website
Learn how to set up a fully functional, multimedia website for personal or professional use. You'll shoot photos and video and learn to edit in Photoshop and iMovie. And you’ll practice uploading and managing content on your own WordPress site. For beginners and those with some familiarity with websites or relevant software.
Five consecutive Saturdays, beginning July 9 and ending Aug. 6
Shooting and Editing Video
Learn how to shoot, edit and share high-quality video. In this two-and-a-half-day workshop, you'll get hands-on practice shooting video and editing it using Final Cut Pro. We'll help you improve your storytelling techniques, and we’ll teach you the basics of lighting, audio, shooting and using effects as well as editing and trimming. For beginners and those with limited experience shooting and editing video.
