The SQF Code is based on government and industry food safety requirements. SQF Certification provides assurance that your food safety and quality plans have been implemented in accordance with HACCP principles and complies with rigorous international standards which have been proven effective in managing food safety and quality systems.

This course is designed to prepare an individual to meet the SQF Practitioner requirements by promoting an understanding of the SQF Code, 7th Edition and providing a detailed knowledge base to participants to facilitate the successful implementation and maintenance of an SQF System. Edition 7 of the SQF Code is effective July 1, 2012 and applies to all sectors of the food industry including primary production through to distribution.

After attending this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the SQF Code, 7th Edition, format, food sector categories and sector applicable modules
  • Understand requirements for SQF Practitioners and SQF Consultants
  • Describe the differences between Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 SQF certification
  • Identify the SQF System elements and Mandatory Requirements
  • Implement, manage and maintain SQF Systems
  • Develop, validate and verify the elements of food safety and quality plans and the SQF System
  • Know how to prepare for the SQF certification audit

Day 1

  • Introduction to SQF, Implementing SQF Systems Training, Cost of Quality
  • Preparing for SQF Certification:
    • Prepare for Certification; Code description; Registration; The SQF practitioner
  • SQF Certification Process:
    • Overview, Selecting a CB; The Audit; Granting and Maintaining Certification
  • Implementing an SQF System:
    • Management Commitment; Food Safety Plan; Food Quality Plan; Pre-Assessment

 Day 2

  • Develop a Food Quality Plan
  • Module 2: SQF System Elements
  • Module 11: GMP and Post Farm Gate

 An examination is optional after taking this course in order to receive a certificate from SQFI. This exam is an additional fee of $75 invoiced by SQFI and must be taken online by participating trainees independently. Instructions on taking this exam will be given at the course.
