2015 Fall Girls on the Run of Northern Virginia Program

Our Vision: To create a world where each girl knows she has the ultimate power to be her best.

Girls on the RunⓇ is a life-changing, experiential learning program for girls in the third through eighth grades. The program combines training for a 5K (3.1 mile) running event with self-esteem enhancing and uplifting workouts. The goal of the programs is to help girls develop the confidence and character they need to be strong, healthy women.

Girls on the RunⓇ of Northern Virginia offers the following programs: Girls on the Run (grades 3-5), Girls on Track (grades 6-8), and Heart & Sole (grades 6-8). The participants in Girls on the Run and Girls on Track meet in groups of 15-20 participants twice weekly for 60-75 minutes each session to prepare for and complete the 5K, while the participants in Heart & Sole meet in groups of 15 participants twice weekly for 75-90 minutes. The program uses an innovative and fun curriculum designed exclusively for pre-teen girls to address specific life skills through the use of games, warm-ups, and workouts.

Girls on the RunⓇ
participants explore the importance of developing every part of a strong girl, where the spirit, body, heart, brain, and social parts of the girl are nurtured. They examine body image issues, stereotyping and discriminatory behaviors, as well as the importance of maintaining realistic and healthy views of themselves.

Research studies show that Girls on the Run promotes the physical, mental, social and spiritual outcomes that help prevent unhealthy and risky behaviors in adolescent girls.
