On behalf of the California School Nurses Organization (CSNO) State and Section Boards and myself, welcome to the 68th CSNO State School Nurse Conference at the Historic Mission Inn Hotel, and Riverside Convention Center. This year’s conference theme “The Vitamin C's of School Nursing: Compassion, Commitment & Creativity” describes how school nurses work to meet the needs of the students and school communities they serve on a daily basis.  The State Conference Committee; State and Section President-elects along with our San Diego Hospitality Hostesses, have diligently worked to ensure that this conference addresses the myriad aspects of our evolving school nursing practice.

On Thursday, February 7th, you can maximize your personal involvement, engagement and networking by getting hands-on at the “CSNO Pre-Conference”. With interactive expert led panel discussions and workshops you will continue your lifelong learning and build on the skills that make you successful. Please plan to attend the Kick-off Reception with Exhibitors on Thursday evening to meet our Conference Sponsors and Exhibitors.  Please thank them for their continued invaluable support of CSNO.  They are giving us their valuable time to support the conference, and without their support this professional learning experience would not be possible.  CSNO has something for everyone, whether you are a CSNO veteran or new to CSNO and this is your first CSNO conference.

For the first time, CSNO will offer a school nurse academy as part of the conference strand. This special strand will help new school nurses participate in the academy as well as experience the annual conference at the same time.  Participants will get their three face to face academy sessions during the conference.  The remaining online courses will be sent to the participants after the academy.  We are excited to offer this experience to our school nurses.

We have incredible conference speakers who are experts on topics that are important to new and experienced school nurses alike. Our conference has many general and breakout sessions so you can arrange your schedule to best fit your school nurse practice needs. You will be able to learn more about evidence based practice and hot topics and trends in school nursing. At our breakfasts and lunches, plan to network with colleagues and new friends.  Our pre-conference and conference will provide an array of clinical and practice-appropriate topics. Don’t miss this informative conference!

If you are up for some action, join us on Saturday evening for some flamingo dancing at Café Sevilla.  It’s sure to tantalize your taste buds and make you tap your toes. It promises to be a fun filled evening with laughter, libation, and relaxation! We hope you will join us.

We have many great prizes and products for school nurses available at the conference and related events. We look forward to seeing you there. While at the conference, feel free to reach out and share your thoughts with any one of the CSNO Board of Directors and when you return home, continue your involvement through one of CSNO’s local sections.

Finally, on behalf of CSNO, I’d like to thank the Conference Chair, Pamela Kahn and her committee (your section President-elects) Mary Jue/Baycoast, Marilyn Glinskas/Central Valley, Collette Cooper/Northern Section, Marci McLean/Southern Section, and Maggie West/San Diego-Imperial Section, Aileen Archibald, CSNO Secretary, Stephanie Yellin Mednick and Kathy Ryan, CSNO Past President, our dedicated volunteers, corporate sponsors and exhibitors, CSNO Office Manager Monika Katyal for all the time, energy and care they put forth to bring this conference to us this year. Please save the date for the 2019 conference February 14-17, 2019 at the Hyatt Regency Monterey, located in Monterey, CA.
